Can You Help Serve a Sunday Evening Meal During Lent?

We are looking for volunteers to help prepare and serve a meal each Sunday evening during Lent as part of the Walking Together program. If you can help, please mark the signup sheet this morning, or contact Valerie Marinoni.

Lent Study – Making Sense of the Cross

Sunday mornings from 9h45 to 10h45

In worship this Lent, we will be paying particular attention to that central Christian symbol: the cross. It’s a symbol so common and so basic to Christianity that we may not think very much about it; and if we do think about it, we may find ourselves disturbed by theologies about the cross that point to a violent and legalistic God.

As a complement to what we’re doing in worship, there will be a Sunday morning class during Lent focused on the cross and the questions we bring to it. We will read Making Sense of the Cross, an accessible book by David Lose, and we’ll look at some of the difficult and important questions raised by the cross and some of the ways Christians have made sense of this symbol over time. All are welcome to join. We are now sold out of copies of the book; if you haven’t yet signed up for one and would like a copy, please contact the office.

Forum on Potential Second Worship Service, 11 March

We have a lively, vital congregation. For years we have been rather stable both in terms of involvement and financial support. For this we are grateful. However, couldn’t more people benefit from a community such as ours?

One possible way to do this would be to start a second service on Sunday evening. A sermon can be delivered twice without much more work. The worship service might have to be adapted a little but would not need to be totally recreated. We could potentially reach people not inclined for Sunday morning, but who might find Sunday evening practical.

After worship on Sunday 11 March, for about 40 minutes, we will explore together what it might mean to grow using a second service as a strategy. What opportunities and what fears might this raise? What possibilities could it open? Please plan to join us for discussion. We will be exploring ideas, not making decisions, but we need input from the community for anything to work.

Children Singing and Assisting in Worship, 10 and 11 March

We will prepare a song and other worship involvement for children ages 6–11. Practice (in English), with a mid-morning snack, will be on Saturday 10 March from 10h00 to noon in preparation to sing and assist in worship on Sunday 11 March. If your children might be interested, please talk with Terry MacArthur.
